<image:caption>Location: Beaufort, NC Size: 12,800 sf Completion Date: Spring 2021 This project is a renovation to an existing 1980s commercial building in the historic Beaufort waterfront. Located on a prominent site on the main corridor running through the historic downtown this property was once home to the Beaufort Wharf, historically a great area of commerce. When developers purchased the existing building it was rundown. They approached Toma Farren architects to up-fit the interior and exterior, their goal was to bring the building back to the spirit of what it once was. Toma Farren helped brainstorm a new program for the building and rework the plan so that all circulation took place externally on the exterior porches, maximizing rentable square footage. The downstairs remains commercial space for local business, the second level is residential condos and the upper floor will be an event space with a rooftop bar.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Location: Bandera, Tx Size: 6,000 Square Feet Photography: Casey Dunn + project completed as an employee at Lake Flato Architects Located on a 20,000 acre south Texas family ranch, Verde Creek Ranch is sited at the convergence of three different landscapes: Texas grasslands, Verde Creek, and a large bluff. The home was situated to take advantage of all three biomes. tucked between the bluff to the north and the creek to the south, the prevailing winds move across the grasslands through the house, providing access to gentle summer breezes and generous natural lighting. The homestead is organized to fully embrace outdoor living. A main pavilion houses the communal spaces of the home, the kitchen, living, and dining rooms as well as the outdoor kitchen overlooking the creek and the grasslands beyond. Branching off of the main pavilion are four separate private living volumes connected by covered breezeways, a master suite, a guest cottage along the bluff, and two cottage suites for the families teenage daughters facing the creek to the south.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Location: Beaufort, NC Size: 6,500 SF Completion Date: Fall 2020 This home is located on a breathtaking site in between a heavily wooded oak forest and the ocean sound. Working largely within the existing footprint of the original homestead built in 1980 we were able to accentuate the portion of the home the clients loved while, adding new spaces and reworking the original design to provide ample space for their large family, the owners passion for boating and outdoor living. A new materials pallet of weathered wood siding and stainted brick are inspired by the local eastern North Carolina coastal vernacular. The use of these native materials help the home blend into the neighboring oak forest that you must meander through upon entering the site. An entry porch of slatted wood pays homage to the tradition of entry porches and slatted wood shutters found throughout the local town.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Location: Cary, NC Size: 8,000 SF Completion Date: Fall 2021 Lakeview Residence overlooks the lake and 18th fairway at MacGregor Downs in Cary, NC. The client approached Toma Farren after purchasing the original 1971 two story home with walk out basement. In love with the sloping site, the mature trees, and breathtaking view, they felt the existing home was too small and did not live up to the potential of the site. Working primarily within the existing footprint of the house, we sought to sit naturally within the site while increasing views from the interior toward the lake. The singe shed roof and simple modern material palette fits within the natural mid-century modernist roots of the neighborhood.</image:caption>

Oriented to both capture the view and prevailing breezes, The golf pavilion was strategically sited at a location where several of the courses end and begin. Nestled under the pines overlooking a famous par 3 golf course, the materials selected for the pavilion were inspired by the natural landscape and historical tobacco buildings found throughout the area.</image:caption>
